MARGAO: PWD Minister Digambar Kamat has rejected allegations levelled by the Congress over the venue arrangements for Rahul Gandhi’s meeting in Margao, asserting that the MMC ground is privately owned and that he has no personal control over it.
Speaking at a press conference in Margao, Kamat accused the Congress of targeting him to deflect criticism over the arrangements for the meeting.
“The Congress is making baseless and false allegations against me to cover up its failure and mismanagement in organising Rahul Gandhi’s meeting,” Kamat said.
He explained that the MMC ground belongs to a private club and that the owner decides the charges for its use. He also claimed that permission for government events had been denied at the venue in the past.
Maintaining that the ground was not his personal property, Kamat questioned the Congress’s choice of venue for a meeting involving its senior national leader, describing the selected location as a small parking area.
The minister’s remarks come amid a political dispute over the arrangements for Rahul Gandhi’s meeting in Margao, with Kamat denying responsibility for the ground-related controversy.
At the same press conference, Kamat outlined several development plans for Margao, including a proposed medical college at the ESI Hospital by July 2027, two KTC buses for city transport, and road infrastructure projects worth crores of rupees.
