Tennis star player Novak Djokovic has thanked Virat Kohli. Indian cricketer Kohli had praised Djokovic during practice before the second T20 against Afghanistan on Sunday and told the story of his conversation with him.
SYDNEY: On Monday, Djokovic shared an Instagram story. In this story, he has shared a reel of the Indian cricket team, in which Virat Kohli is seen praising him. While sharing this reel, Djokovic has written, ‘Thank you Virat for these lovely words. I am waiting for the day when we play together.
Just before the start of Australian Open 2024, Djokovic played cricket with Australia’s star batsman Steve Smith. Both of them also faced each other in the tennis court. After this, many questions related to cricket were answered from Djokovic. Here he also took the name of Kohli. After this, when Virat was asked about Djokovic, he told about his connection with the tennis player.
Kohli said- Djokovic had messaged on Instagram
During practice at Holkar Stadium on Sunday, Kohli told BCCI, ‘I wanted to message Novak on Instagram to talk to him. But when I went to the message box, I saw that he had already messaged me. His message was not opened for a long time. Then I opened my message box for the first time.
There was a fear of getting a fake ID.
Kohli further said, ‘When I saw Djokovic’s message, I thought it was done with a fake ID. But when I checked again, I found that the message had come from the real account. Then we started talking. We started congratulating each other on achievements.
Recently, Novak had congratulated me on my 50th ODI century by posting a story on Instagram. He also congratulated me by personal message. I respect him a lot, it’s nice to talk to the world’s top global athletes. His tennis career is brilliant, his hard work for fitness always inspires me.
Kohli wants to have coffee with Djokovic
Kohli told that he wants to talk with Djokovic over coffee in India. He also congratulated Djokovic for participating in the Australian Open. During the promotional event at the Australian Open, Djokovic was seen playing cricket and tennis with Australia’s legendary cricketer Steve Smith.
On Djokovic’s cricket skills, Kohli said, ‘Djokovic’s cricket technique is much better than my tennis skills. Steve showed excellent play by returning his service. But I have watched many tennis matches live and I know how fast the service is there. Still, it would be nice to play tennis with him. I can only teach them how to hold the bat.
Djokovic had praised Virat
Djokovic has won the Australian Open 10 times and has a total of 24 Grand Slam titles. In an interview given to broadcasters before the start of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year 2024, he had said, ‘Virat and I have been talking online for the last few years.’
Djokovic had said, ‘Virat and him have never met but it is an honor for me to talk to him. His (Virat’s) cricket career and achievements are fantastic. I am not good at cricket but I have started playing it. I don’t want to feel embarrassed because of my cricket skills when I go to India.
