PANAJI: Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday welcomed the Centre’s approval of financial assistance of up to ₹6 crore per project under the NAMO Van Yojana, calling it a major step towards transforming Goa’s urban spaces into thriving green ecosystems.
Rane said the initiative will help improve air quality, reduce the urban heat island effect, strengthen biodiversity, and create healthier public spaces, describing every green space developed as “an investment in a healthier, cleaner and more climate-resilient Goa.”
The Minister said the State is already working to convert the legacy garbage dump at Sonsodo into a vibrant green space and has identified several more sites across municipalities to replicate the model by creating additional “Green Lungs” in urban centres.
According to Rane, the NAMO Van Yojana will significantly strengthen Goa’s vision of developing greener and healthier cities while promoting sustainable urban development.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rane said the initiative reflects the Centre’s commitment to making sustainable development a people’s movement and reaffirmed the State government’s resolve to continue expanding green infrastructure across Goa.
