PORIEM: Poriem MLA Dr. Deviya Rane has directed the Valpoi Police to take swift action following reports of suspected hazardous waste being illegally dumped near the crematorium at Narayan Nagar, Honda.
Taking serious cognizance of the incident, Dr. Rane instructed the police to conduct an immediate investigation, ascertain the source and nature of the waste, identify the vehicle involved and trace those responsible for the dumping.
According to the information provided, the Valpoi Police have taken the truck allegedly involved in the incident to the police station, while the driver and owner have been called for enquiry. Further investigation is underway.
Dr. Rane has also directed the concerned authorities to ensure the immediate removal of the waste from the site and arrange for its safe handling and disposal. She stressed that the material was allegedly dumped without authorisation and could pose a potential risk to the environment and surrounding areas.
The MLA has called for scientific verification of the nature of the waste, stating that strict legal action should be taken if violations of environmental or waste-management regulations are established.
She has further instructed the concerned departments to maintain continuous vigilance in the area to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Emphasising the need to protect public health and the environment, Dr. Rane stated that illegal dumping, particularly of suspected hazardous material, would not be tolerated and that those found responsible would face action as per the law.
She reiterated her commitment to safeguarding the environment, protecting public health and ensuring the enforcement of regulations against activities that could endanger the people and ecology of Sattari.
