PANAJI: A 24-year-old man allegedly driving a rent-a-cab car under the influence of alcohol and without a valid driving licence rammed into a scooter rider at Moita in Agacaim and fled the scene, leaving the victim seriously injured.
According to Agacaim police, the incident occurred on April 6 at around 5.30 pm along the NH-66 stretch at Moita. The accused, identified as Jagadish Biswas, a cook by profession and currently residing at Agacaim, was reportedly driving a Baleno rent-a-cab vehicle from Bambolim towards Cortalim.
Police said the driver allegedly veered to the left side of the road and collided with an oncoming Activa scooter ridden by Nixon Antao (24), a resident of Shiroda, Ponda. The impact caused grievous injuries to the scooterist.
After the accident, the driver allegedly fled the spot without informing police or arranging medical assistance for the injured. A complaint in the matter was lodged by police personnel on behalf of the State, and a case has been registered.
Further investigation is in progress with Agacaim police.
