PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has reiterated that education should not be treated as a profit-driven activity, stating that schools exist to shape students’ futures and contribute to their overall development.
He highlighted that educational institutions have a larger responsibility of guiding students in their career paths, with teachers playing a crucial role in mentoring and preparing them for the future. According to Sawant, the focus of schools must remain on quality learning and holistic growth rather than financial considerations.
In addition, the Chief Minister announced that a specialised Fire and Emergency Services course will be introduced in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state from the current academic year.
He pointed out that earlier, eligibility for fire service roles was largely restricted to candidates with Class 10 or 12 qualifications. The new course aims to provide structured training and enhance skill development, creating better-prepared personnel for emergency services while also opening up new career opportunities for youth.
