PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that Government will lay thrust on sustainable development by conserving the environment in the State.
“Government knows that the Goa is surrounded with western ghat and sea on the other side. There is the importance of the environment. and efforts are being made by the Government to conserve through Goa Biodiversity Board 33% of forest areas, CRZ areas, rich biodiversity and environment at large,’ said CM Sawant.
He further said that some village areas that are notified as eco-sensitive zones will also be conserved.
“Goa Biodiversity Board strives to fulfil its objective with its full strength and is worthy of appreciation. I appreciate the manufacture of nutmeg cola marketed by Goa Biodiversity Board,” he added.
Sawant said that after commencing Agricultural College at Ela Farm Old Goa research and innovation pertaining to agriculture would be carried out to boost agriculture in the State.
Minister for Environment Nilesh Cabral said it is the Government’s duty to preserve the environment.
“The launching of the seed bank is a decisive step of the Government towards taking care of Goas biodiversity. He appreciated Dr Vandana Shiva for her contribution to conservation of biodiversity in the country. And particularly in Goa. The Goa Biodiversity Board and farmers will associate with Dr Vandana Shiva and will work together for the cause of the biodiversity of Goa.
