CANACONA: A 70-year-old woman was found dead in a decomposed state inside her residence at Mastimol, Canacona, on Tuesday, with her son reportedly sitting beside the body when police arrived.
According to Canacona Police, an anonymous caller alerted the police on Tuesday morning about a woman lying dead inside a house located behind the ITI at Mastimol.
A police team rushed to the spot and, during inquiries, learnt from a relative that the deceased was Laximi Dhotrekar (70). Her body was found lying on a bed in an advanced state of decomposition.
Police said the woman lived with her son, who is reported to have a mental disability. He was found seated beside his mother’s body when officers entered the house.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that neighbours had last seen the deceased on Saturday evening, indicating that she may have died several days before her body was discovered.
Police conducted an inquest and scene panchanama, and the body was shifted to the South Goa District Hospital, Margao, for medico-legal formalities and to ascertain the exact cause of death.
An unnatural death case has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Further inquiry is being conducted by PSI Babu Dessai of Canacona Police Station.
