PANAJI: In a significant crackdown, the Department of Excise has seized a large consignment of unauthorized premium foreign liquor being transported illegally into Goa. Acting on specific intelligence, officials intercepted a container vehicle bearing registration number HR-58-D-0752, which was found carrying high-end foreign liquor brands without the mandatory transport permits.
The liquor, estimated to be worth over ₹2.5 crore in the market, was concealed inside the container in an apparent attempt to evade detection. The seizure was made in violation of the Goa Excise Duty Act and Rules, 1964.
Authorities have impounded the vehicle and initiated legal proceedings against the offenders under the relevant provisions of the Act. An investigation into the case is currently underway.
A spokesperson for the Excise Department stated that stringent action will continue to be taken against those attempting to smuggle liquor into the state without proper documentation.
