PANAJI: A fresh political confrontation has erupted within the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP), with MLA Viresh Borkar rejecting his reported expulsion from the party and describing the termination order as “a joke” that is “null and void.”
Responding to the disciplinary action, Borkar said the opinion of a well-known advocate confirms that the party constitution clearly recognises the authority of the National President. He maintained that the actions initiated by certain individuals have no constitutional validity.
“As per what is going on, we will expose the real motives behind these actions,” Borkar said, adding that the constitutional position and relevant facts would be placed before the public.
Earlier in the day, the Revolutionary Goans Party announced the termination of Borkar’s primary membership with immediate effect following disciplinary proceedings. The party directed him not to represent or issue any statements on behalf of the RGP, stating that any such communication would be treated as unauthorised, unofficial, null and void.
The termination notice was reportedly sent to Borkar through the party’s official email ID.
Borkar, however, dismissed the action and asserted that he continues to be a founder member of the RGP, the party’s MLA and its National President. He also declared that he would contest the next Goa Assembly elections on an RGP ticket.
Defending the party’s decision, RGP leader Ajay Kholkar alleged that Borkar had conspired to split the party, remove party president Manoj Parab and join another political party despite being served repeated notices. Kholkar maintained that, with the termination taking immediate effect, Borkar no longer has any association with the Revolutionary Goans Party.
The developments mark the latest escalation in the ongoing leadership dispute within the RGP, with both factions claiming constitutional legitimacy and authority over the party.
