PONDA: The Goa government has inaugurated a Blood Storage Centre at the Sub-District Hospital (SDH), Ponda, aimed at improving access to blood for planned surgeries and emergency cases while reducing the need for patients’ families to travel to Goa Medical College (GMC) or Hospicio Hospital.
The facility has been established with an investment of over ₹1 crore towards infrastructure, equipment and trained manpower, strengthening the public healthcare network in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said strengthening healthcare infrastructure closer to the people remains central to the government’s vision for a robust healthcare system in Goa.
He said the Blood Storage Centre would ensure timely availability of blood at SDH Ponda and ease the burden on patients and their families by bringing essential healthcare services closer to home.
Rane also announced that the facility will be upgraded in phases into a full-fledged 24×7 Blood Bank, while SDH Ponda will continue to be equipped with advanced medical facilities to reduce patient referrals and enhance healthcare services.
