VASCO: A family had a narrow escape after a portion of the roof of their house collapsed at New Vaddem on Thursday night, leaving the occupants shaken but unhurt.
The damaged house belongs to Vijay Mallah. According to available information, a section of the roof suddenly caved in while family members were inside the house. They managed to escape safely before any injuries could occur.
Neighbours rushed to the spot after hearing a loud noise and assisted the family. The collapse caused significant damage to the affected portion of the house.
The exact cause of the incident has not yet been determined. It is yet to be ascertained whether the collapse resulted from structural weakness, the ongoing monsoon, or other factors.
Soon after learning about the incident, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar visited the site to assess the damage. He interacted with the affected family, inspected the collapsed roof and assured them of all possible assistance for carrying out the necessary repairs.
Salkar also said the matter would be taken up with the concerned authorities to ensure the family receives the required support at the earliest. Expressing relief that no one was injured, he urged residents living in old or damaged houses to remain vigilant during the monsoon and report signs of structural deterioration before accidents occur.
