PANAJI: The Panaji Traffic Cell has intensified its crackdown on illegal parking, registering 1,811 violations across the city during the first six months of 2026, highlighting the persistent challenge of indiscriminate parking in the state capital.
Police data shows that the cases include vehicles parked in prohibited areas, unauthorised parking and instances of dangerous parking that obstruct traffic flow and pose risks to road users.
Traffic officials said enforcement drives are being carried out regularly at identified congestion points, with offending motorists being penalised to improve compliance with parking regulations.
Officials also pointed out that illegal parking is not restricted to D.B. Marg but is prevalent in several parts of Panaji, contributing to congestion and inconvenience for pedestrians.
To tackle recurring violations along D.B. Marg, the Traffic Cell has proposed increasing the height of footpaths at vulnerable locations to discourage motorists from parking vehicles on pedestrian pathways.
Police said a combination of stricter enforcement and infrastructure improvements is expected to help reduce parking violations and improve road safety in the city.
