CANACONA: Stating Farmers feed us all and each of the farmers deserves preferences over other strata of the society, WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar advocated that Farmers should get their subsidies for various schemes they have opted, before the 10th of every month.
Shirodkar was speaking at the Krishi melava held under the Western Ghat Development Program organised by the Departments of Agriculture and Water Resources at Sanskriti Bhavan in Amone (Poinguinim) in Canacona on Tuesday.
“The government employees are getting their salary on the 1st of every month. So, even the farmers who feed them and us all have their right to get regular and timely remuneration.’, Shirodkar said further. ‘It should be ensured that every farmer gets at least five thousand rupees every year through either of the various means and schemes. Agriculture, Water Resources and Animal Husbandry Departments need to work hand-in-hand to achieve this. In the financial year from 2021 to 2023, Canacona Taluka has received two and a half crore rupees from the Department of Agriculture alone.’
‘Till now there are over three hundred Bhandaras in the state. This year one hundred more bhandaras will be added. By 2025, the number of Bhandaras in the state will be increased to around five hundred. On the occasion of the 75th Republic, the number of 75 old Bhandaras will be repaired’, Shirodkar said that seven agricultural fairs will be organized in the state till March, out of which the first agricultural fair in the state has been organized in Canacona.
Earlier, the Krishi melava was inaugurated by Shirodkar along with Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, Poinguinim Sarpanch Savita Tawadkar, ZP(Khola) Shanu Velip, ZP(Poinguinim) Shobhana Velip in the presence of Atma Project Officer Shivram Naik Gaonkar, Water Resources Department Executive Engineer Patil, Director of Agriculture Neville Alphonso, Deputy Director Sandeep Phal Desai, Village Budhwant Suresh Gaonkar, Divisional Agriculture Officer Vrinda Velip, Sarpanch of Shristhala Panchayat Sejal Gaonkar, Dy. Sarpanch Punam Gaonkar, Canacona ZAO Nagesh Komarpant, Khotigao Sarpanch Anandu Desai and others.
Speaking on the occasion GLA Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar said, it is possible to set up an industrial project in the agricultural sector worth 65 crore rupees through TRIFED of the Central Tribal Department. This idea is being taken forward through Canacona Vision and Mission. But for that it is necessary to change our mindset and connect traditional and modern technology. He said that there is no alternative but the agriculture sector in Canacona has the capability to eliminate unemployment’.
Sarpanch of Painguinim Savita Tawadkar said that farmers are the real backbone of the country and they are the real annadata (food providers).
ZP Shanu Velip said that farmers were the payments of the basic price of agricultural produce in time.
On the occasion progressive farmers of Canacona Ajay Lolayekar, Rohidas Tengse, Cholu Pandu Velip, Rajesh Moru Gaonkar, Mahendra Bhandari, Sachin Naik, Vivekananda Prabhu gaonkar and other farmers were felicitated as progressive farmers at the Krishi Melava by giving shawls, bouquets and certificates of appreciation. Bags with fertilizer and seeds was also gifted.
Divisional Agriculture Officer Nagesh Komarpant welcomed and introduced while staff of Divisional Agriculture Office Canacona presented welcome song.
