PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Sunday hit out at the Congress over its allegations against the Election Commission of India (ECI), saying the party’s repeated questioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) has no basis when elections are conducted using ballot papers.
“Congress has repeatedly questioned EVMs and demanded ballot papers. We held the Zilla Panchayat elections using ballot papers, and the BJP won by a landslide. This shows that Congress has lost the public’s trust. They are now trying to create confusion among people, but the public will not be misled,” said Sawant.

Sawant said Congress has a habit of blaming the ECI and EVMs whenever it loses elections. He said Congress had earlier called EVMs a “black box” after losing elections, while accepting EVMs in states where it won.
Sawant pointed out that Goa’s Zilla Panchayat elections were held without EVMs, using ballot papers, yet Congress lost the polls.
He said the ECI’s joint press conference had cleared doubts over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and Form 6, and urged Congress not to confuse people or target constitutional institutions.
“Elections are won through people’s trust, support and development,” he said.
