MARGAO: South Goa MP Capt. Viriato Fernandes launched a sharp political attack on former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, asserting that Congress would defeat him in the upcoming election.
Addressing party workers, Fernandes said the time had come for Kamat to “pack his bags and leave.” He credited Congress workers Savio Coutinho and Chirag Naik for their efforts on the ground, saying their work would strengthen the party and contribute to defeating Kamat.
Fernandes’ remarks come amid intensified political activity in Goa ahead of the upcoming election, with Congress workers stepping up their campaign against Kamat.

Congress workers staged a protest outside the Collectorate office in Fatorda, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Party leaders and workers raised slogans against Kumar and accused him of undermining democratic processes. Protesters alleged that his actions were “killing democracy” and expressed their opposition through a demonstration outside the government office.
The protesters also burnt an effigy representing the Chief Election Commissioner as part of the demonstration.
Congress leaders said the protest was intended to highlight their concerns over the functioning of the Election Commission and to demand accountability from the poll body.
