QUEPEM: A resident of Fatorpa in Quepem has allegedly been cheated of over ₹1.02 lakh after cyber fraudsters gained control of his mobile phone during a WhatsApp call and carried out multiple unauthorised transactions.
According to the complaint lodged by Kalpesh Fal Dessai, the incident occurred on April 22, 2026, at around 8.12 pm. Police said unknown persons contacted the complainant through WhatsApp and, while speaking to him over the phone, allegedly gained access to his mobile device.
During the call, the complainant began receiving several text messages. Before he could react, an amount of ₹1,02,482.22 was allegedly debited from his SBI credit card through multiple unauthorised transactions without his knowledge.
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case of cheating against the unidentified accused. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Aditya Sawant of Cuncolim Police Station.
