BARDEZ: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted a surveillance drive across Bardez taluka, inspecting six food businesses, including sweet and farsan manufacturing units, and ordered two establishments to suspend operations over unhygienic conditions.
During the inspections, the FDA team destroyed 320 kg of farsan valued at Rs 64,000 and 185 kg of mawa worth Rs 37,000. Officials said the food items had been prepared and stored under unhygienic conditions, while the mawa was found to have been kept without proper refrigeration.
The two premises have been directed to remain closed until the deficiencies identified during the inspection are rectified and compliance with food safety requirements is ensured.
The FDA said the surveillance drives will continue across different areas of Goa to ensure adherence to prescribed food safety and hygiene standards. Food business operators have been urged to strictly comply with the stipulated norms.
The surveillance team comprised Designated Officer Richard Noronha, Food Safety Officers Amit Mandrekar and Darlane Diukar, along with staff members Sainath Chari and Sandeep Shelke. The drive was conducted under the guidance of FDA Director Shweta Dessai.
