MARGAO: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has intensified enforcement across South Goa to ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards and protect public health.
During inspections in Canacona, two sweet manufacturing units were found with serious hygiene and structural deficiencies, including damaged flooring, a collapsed false ceiling, stagnant water and inadequate storage facilities.
Both establishments were directed to stop operations until they submit the required compliance and the deficiencies are verified by the authorities.
The FDA also confiscated and destroyed expired sweets and farsan products worth ₹10,000 during the enforcement action.
As part of the surveillance drive, 12 samples of sweets were collected and sent for laboratory analysis to check their safety and quality.
In a separate action in Margao, an unlicensed food business was fined ₹10,000 for operating without the required licence.
The FDA said enforcement will continue across the state, with strict action against establishments found violating food safety and hygiene norms.
The department reiterated that ensuring safe food and protecting the health of people in Goa remains a priority.
