MAPUSA: The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) raided the Mapusa interstate bus terminus as part of its efforts to stop the transportation of food items in interstate passenger buses.
During the raid, the FDA confiscated 50 kg of fried onions and 150 kg of paneer and curd, valued at Rs 1.5 lakh.
Following complaints that manufacturers were using edible oil instead of milk fat to make paneer and then shipping it to other states, the FDA took action.
As a result, when food parcels arrived at the interstate bus terminal from outside the State, FDA authorities verified their quality. Sources claim that after receiving information paneer would be moved from Thane to Goa.
The paneer and fried onion, which were transported from Maharashtra by bus, were confiscated by the FDA team. The team discovered that these products were not shipped in accordance with packaging and food safety regulations.
The Mapusa Municipal Council assisted in the seizure and eventual disposal of the objects upon verification. The FDA team also seized cotton candy from Mapusa town merchants during a different operation.
