Two days ago, a robbery took place at the house of our Saligao Sarpanch Lafira Gomes Remedios. This house is situated on the busy Chogam road. A few years ago, this type of incident would have never happened around Saligao.
Maybe the thieves were living around Saligao and knew about the family. A police investigation is in progress to reveal the truth.
Last week two ploughing bulls belonging to Kalidas Patekar from Muddavadi Saligao were stolen from his cattle shade. Again, a police investigation is in progress.
Yesterday teh Saligao villagers caught two Bihari guys; they were going around Arrarim Saligao houses to polish the gold ornaments with a particular type of powder which melts away the gold.

There were similar cases around Goa when these guys who came to glitter the gold ornaments ran away with ornaments.
Yesterday, once again, a mangalsutra snatching incident was reported. Every second day there are incidents of minors being raped, migrants running away with local minor girls, robberies, and murders are committed too often.
You must realise that Goa has not remained the safe place it used to be. We can not remain innocently casual and let things happen.
Our demographic balance is at a dangerous level. In some places, even the migrants have outnumbered us. We can not stop migrants from coming to Goa unless we can supply the manual workforce and skilled technicians our state needs. Which looks not such an easy task.
Every second house we have given rooms on hire. It has become our source of income. No argument about that, as survival has become difficult too.
There was a time when nobody was a stranger in our villages. Everybody knew each other.
But nowadays the situation is not the same, we know very little about our new tenants, or new neighbours who have come from far away places.
Even after repeatedly instructed by the Police department, many house owners do not register their talents verification forms. This makes them very difficult to solve the crimes or trace the accused when they disappear.
My request to all friends, and villagers, who have given their rooms on hire, please make sure you fill up the tenant verification forms. You could get into deep trouble for trusting the strangers. A few years back, we had an incident a sharpshooter from Dawood’s gang stayed at Saligao; no one suspected him till the Mumbai police came and arrested him after four years. Goa has become a safe haven for deadly criminals.
So request to all our friends, our villagers please give the details of the Tennants staying in your rooms. If you see any suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, please inform the police station immediately. We have good police officers and staff at Saligao police station; they are cooperative ever ready to help us.
Let us keep our village safe for our families.
Hoping to get your full cooperation.
