ASSAGAO: In a late-night operation, Anjuna Police busted an alleged online gambling racket operating out of a private villa in Assagao and arrested five persons who were caught red-handed during the raid.
According to police, the offence was registered on April 21 at 4:42 am based on a complaint filed on behalf of the State by PSI Saish M. Kinlekar of Anjuna Police Station. Acting on specific information, a police team conducted a raid between 1:30 am and 3:30 am at Villa No. 2, La Stella Villas in Assagao, Bardez.
During the raid, five accused were allegedly found operating and assisting in running illegal gambling activities involving bets on numerical figures through online platforms using laptops. The accused have been identified as Naveen Kumar Somanathi (30) from Hyderabad, Nitin K (23) from Kerala, Akshay C (26) from Kerala, Sangram Singh Chavan Patil (40) from Pune, and Ramkumar N (25) from Karnataka.
Police seized five mobile phones, four laptops, and other materials collectively valued at approximately ₹5.5 lakh under a panchanama. All five accused were placed under arrest on the same day.
Police sources said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal gambling activities in the coastal belt. Further investigation is underway to determine the extent of the network and whether more individuals are involved.
