PANAJI: In a heart-stopping semifinal match of the Fr. Agnelo YSC Soccer tournament on Wednesday, Fr. Agnelo YSC Paroda edged out Navelim Villagers Union in a dramatic tiebreaker, advancing to the finals. The match, characterized by an aggressive and fast-paced brand of soccer, ended in a 1-1 draw after full time, necessitating a decisive penalty shootout.
The scoring began early, with Savio Vales of Fr. Agnelo YSC Paroda striking the first goal in the 12th minute. His powerful shot from the edge of the box left the Navelim goalkeeper with no chance to react. Navelim Villagers Union leveled the score in the 24th minute when Nash Pereira converted a through pass from Prestly Gomes, beating the Paroda defense and placing the ball in the far corner of the net.
The penalty shootout was equally intense, with both teams showcasing their skills. Fr. Agnelo YSC Paroda successfully converted their penalties through Omkar Gaonkar, Alister Menezes, Livon Clement, Prinson Costa, Praves Borkar, and Dalson Fernandes. Navelim Villagers Union also found the net with goals from Nash Pereira, Noah Luis, Terrance Miranda, Aden Pereira, and Meliston Dias. However, it was Fr. Agnelo YSC Paroda that emerged victorious in the sudden death penalty shootout, securing their spot in the finals.
