Preparations for G20 meetings in Goa on the right track
Panjim March 20: Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Chief Coordinator G20 and Arvind Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Govt. Of India and the accompanying delegation met Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant in Porvorim on Monday, March 20, to discuss the preparations for the upcoming G20 meetings in Goa that will start next month, in April.
The G20 delegation is on an official visit to review the state’s preparedness for the summit.
As part of the eight G20 summit to be held in Goa, two ministerial and six other meetings will be held in the state spread across the next four months. The first meeting in Goa will have in attendance international health officials and delegates.
From April 17-19, the 2nd Health Working Group Meeting will be held at Grand Hyatt, Bambolim-Goa. The 3rd Development Working Group Meeting is scheduled to be held from May 9-10, the location of which will be decided in the next few days.
Three meetings will be held in June. The June leg of meetings will start with the 3rd International Finance Architecture Working Group Meeting scheduled June 5-7. The SAI20 Summit will be held in Goa from June 12-14.
The 4th Tourism Working Group Meeting followed by the ministerial meeting (Ministry of Tourism) will be held from June 19-22.
Later, in July, an Energy Working Group Meeting will be held. This will be followed by the second Ministerial Meeting (Ministry of Power).
During the meeting with the Chief Minister of Goa, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Chief Coordinator G20 and Arvind Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India discussed the events lined up during the course of the summit in Goa.
The visiting delegates will be exposed to conferences in the state and excursions to Goa’s iconic locations such as Fort Aguada and Sé Cathedral, among other locations that are being shortlisted. The delegates will also attend various cultural programmes planned and activities under Samvad/Ratri Bhoj to enhance their cultural experience in Goa.
Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant stressed on the importance of promoting the theme of ‘sustainability’ at the meetings by showcasing and utilising upcycled and recycled products. The G20 officials expressed their willingness to promote Goa’s Cruise Tourism by hosting a ‘gala dinner’ for the visiting delegates.
In preparation for the summit in Goa, Chief Minister also assured to include activities that promote Goan culture, heritage and sustainable tourism.
