PANAJI: The Goa government has informed the High Court that it has abandoned the proposal to construct a pedestrian footbridge linking Dayanand Bandodkar Road, near the Patto multi-level parking facility, with Santa Monica Jetty, stating that the project is not viable.
The submission was made during the hearing of the High Court’s suo motu proceedings on the traffic management plan for Panaji.
Placing its stand before the court, the government said the proposed footbridge was found to be impractical and, therefore, would not be taken up.
Instead, the state maintained that the existing pedestrian underpass connecting the Patto multi-level parking to Santa Monica Jetty already offers a safe and convenient route for commuters, making an additional overbridge unnecessary.
After recording the government’s submissions, the High Court adjourned the matter for further consideration to September 28.
