Panjim:- Goa Industrial Development Corporation (Goa-IDC) Chairman Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco has clarified that the scrapyard operated by Shaba Traders, where a massive fire broke out at Kundaim, is located on privately owned land outside the notified boundaries of the Kundaim Industrial Estate.
Lourenco said the premises neither belong to nor fall under the jurisdiction of Goa-IDC, dismissing reports that may have created the impression that the incident occurred within the industrial estate.
He further stated that Goa-IDC is strengthening fire safety and emergency preparedness across its industrial estates.
As part of these efforts, the corporation has tendered a comprehensive fire safety audit to assess existing infrastructure and identify areas requiring improvement.
Instructions have also been issued to field managers to inspect and monitor the functionality and operational readiness of fire hydrant systems in their respective industrial estates.
Goa-IDC also plans to conduct fire safety mock drills in coordination with the concerned authorities to improve emergency response and minimise risks.
Reiterating the corporation’s commitment to the safety of industries, workers and infrastructure, Lourenco urged the media to maintain the distinction between the privately owned scrapyard and the notified boundaries of the Kundaim Industrial Estate while reporting the incident.
