PANAJI: Holiday planning in Goa for 2027 could come with some disappointment for employees, with several important festivals and national occasions falling on Sundays, reducing opportunities for extended weekend breaks.
The Goa government has notified the holiday calendar for 2027, outlining public, special, restricted, commercial and bank holidays across the state.
Among the notable public holidays falling on Sundays are Independence Day (August 15), the second day of Ganesh Chaturthi (September 5) and Goa Liberation Day (December 19).
The list of restricted holidays also includes several Sunday observances, including Onam on September 12, Bhaubij on October 31 and Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 14.
Milad-un-Nabi, listed as a special holiday, also falls on August 15, coinciding with Independence Day.
Meanwhile, a number of other important occasions fall on Saturdays. These include May Day on May 1, Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, Dussehra on October 9 and Christmas on December 25.
The notification, issued by the General Administration Department on November 2, states that government employees can avail themselves of any two holidays from the list of 23 restricted holidays in addition to the declared public and special holidays.
The government has also separately notified holidays for commercial and industrial establishments and banks for 2027.
With several major occasions falling on weekends, the 2027 holiday calendar may leave employees with fewer opportunities to make the most of long weekends.
