CANACONA/KARWAR: The Karwar Rural Police have busted an alleged Goa-Karnataka ganja trafficking network with the arrest of five persons, including three women, in a two-phase operation conducted in Goa and Karnataka. Police seized a total of 1.311 kg of ganja, cash, a motorcycle, mobile phones, a digital weighing machine and other items during the operation.
According to a press release issued by the Karwar Rural Police on July 27, the operations were carried out by officers of the Karwar Rural Police Station along with the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division at Nagaragunj Temple area in Hegde village of Siddapur taluk and at Jambmangala village in Ramanagara district, Karnataka.
In the first operation, police seized 465 grams of ganja valued at around ₹25,000. They also recovered a Hero Splendor motorcycle, a mobile phone worth approximately ₹30,000 and ₹250 in cash.
Further investigation led the police to another accused allegedly involved in the supply and distribution of narcotic substances. During the second phase of the operation, three women were detained and police recovered 846 grams of ganja valued at around ₹48,000, ₹10,800 in cash, a digital weighing machine and a plastic container allegedly used for packing the contraband.
Police said the investigation revealed that the accused were allegedly sourcing ganja from the Colomb area of Canacona taluk in Goa and distributing it across Uttara Kannada and other coastal regions of Karnataka.
The accused have been booked under Sections 8(c) and 20(b)(ii)(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Dinesh M.N., IPS, Additional Superintendent of Police Krishnamurthy B., Karwar Sub-Division Police Officer Girish S.V., Police Inspector Y.H. Satyan, Police Sub-Inspectors Nehal Khan and Jyothi Prabhu, along with the officers and staff of the Karwar Rural Police Station. Police said the coordinated operation led to the successful detection of the interstate drug trafficking network and seizure of the contraband.
