PANAJI: Following reports of leaks, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to examine Kala Academy and provide an audit report.
The Dinanath Mangeshkar auditorium leaked twice during the pre-monsoon rains, drawing harsh criticism from the authorities. In addition, Sawant has requested that PWD take preventative action prior to implementing a long-term solution.
“I have instructed the PWD principal chief engineer to ensure that all precautions are taken to prevent any future problems. The audit report on Kala Academy needs to be submitted promptly,” he said.
Govind Gaude, the minister of art and culture, had stated following the April incident that the PWD was in charge of the building’s construction and that the Department of Art and Culture had not yet received possession of it. An audit of the renovated works has been demanded by the Opposition.
Concerns about the Dinanath Mangeshkar auditorium have been raised by the recent recurrence of leaks at the Kala Academy, especially during the current pre-monsoon rains. However, the authorities have not commented on the situation.
The development comes close on the heels of Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude’s comments on Kala Academy and Tribal communities.
After reports of leakages in Kala Academy, Gaude had blamed PWD for shoddy work.
On Monday again, Gaude took a potshot at government over schedule tribes.
Declaring that the tribal community should step up their agitation to get their demands met, Sports Minister Govind Gaude stated that it was wrong of the government to utilise them as a voting bloc.
“It’s wrong on the part of the government to use the tribal communities only for votes,” Gaude said adding the tribal communities need to intensify their agitation to get their demands fulfilled.
He further said that there are still a number of tribal demands unfulfilled by the government.
