New Delhi: Gautam Gambhir, former BJP MP and current head coach of the Indian cricket team, has reportedly received a death threat from a group identifying itself as ‘ISIS Kashmir’. The threat was received on April 22, the same day a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists.
According to reports, Gambhir received two threatening emails, both with the chilling message ‘IKillU’. In response to the threat, Gambhir has taken immediate action by formally requesting the Delhi Police to register an FIR.
The email threats, which were sent from a suspicious Gmail account, prompted Gambhir to notify the police for necessary action. His team forwarded the threat details to the Rajinder Nagar Police Station, requesting an investigation and enhanced security for his family.
Delhi Police officials have confirmed that they are investigating the threat. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), V Harsha Vardhan, stated, “We have been informed about an alleged threat email received on an email ID associated with Gautam Gambhir. The matter is under investigation. Gambhir is already under Delhi Police protection.”
The DCP further clarified that due to security protocols, specific details regarding Gambhir’s protection arrangements would not be disclosed.
This comes as a troubling development for Gambhir, who has been under the security detail of the Delhi Police for some time.
