PANAJI: The Goa Cricket Association (GCA) organised an Anti-Doping Awareness Seminar in collaboration with the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), bringing together around 250 cricketers and support staff from across the state. The initiative was aimed at educating participants on the importance of clean sport and ensuring strict adherence to anti-doping regulations.
The seminar was attended by GCA Secretary Tulshidas Shetye, while the technical session was conducted virtually by anti-doping expert Dr. Rajesh Mailagire. Participants received detailed guidance on India’s anti-doping framework, including prohibited substances and methods, athletes’ rights and responsibilities, therapeutic use exemptions, doping control procedures, and the penalties associated with Anti-Doping Rule Violations.
A key focus of the session was creating awareness about the risks linked to medications and nutritional supplements. Athletes were encouraged to carefully verify everything they consume to avoid unintentional violations that could have serious consequences for their sporting careers. The seminar also highlighted the importance of staying informed about the latest anti-doping regulations and maintaining complete compliance throughout their careers.
The interactive programme encouraged active participation from players and support personnel, helping them better understand their responsibilities in preserving the integrity of the sport. Discussions centred on promoting fairness, accountability, and transparency while reinforcing the values of ethical competition.
The awareness initiative was conducted under the leadership of GCA President and former Ranji Trophy cricketer Mahesh Dessai, Secretary Tulshidas Shetye, and the Association’s Managing Committee. It forms part of the Goa Cricket Association’s ongoing efforts to educate players and support staff about anti-doping compliance and foster a culture of clean, responsible, and ethical cricket across the state.
