PANAJI: The Goa Human Rights Commission has issued notice to the State Government regarding failure to implement Supreme Court order on installing the CCTVs in the police station.
The Apex Court had ordered all States and Union Territories to compulsorily install CCTV with night vision facilities in all Police Stations with provisions for storing recorded data.
It is further reported that the State Government has been dragging its feet over compliance with highly placed sources claiming that lack of funds is the reason.
“Goa Police did report alleged human rights violation and custodial deaths in the past while many such violations could possibly have been silently buried. We take Suo Motu cognizance of the above media report since it involves an important issue to be inquired into,” GHRC said
GHRC has also issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Government of Goa, Secretariat, Porvorim-Goa and the Director-General of Police, Panaji-Goa, to inquire into the matter and submit a report before September 22.
