OLD GOA: The Goa Police have arrested a man on charges of culpable homicide after the car he was travelling in crashed into four vehicles at high speed, killing three people and injuring six others, some of whom are said to be serious.
According to the police, the accused Paresh, alias Shripad A Sinai Sawardekar, (48 years) was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when the accident took place and was travelling with a woman in their Mercedes SUV when the speeding car veered into oncoming traffic around 8pm on Sunday on a bridge in Banastarim, around 15km from the capital city of Panaji.
“Two victims died on the spot while the third, a woman, was flung off her vehicle and fell below the bridge where she was found dead,” a police official said.
Paresh was arrested in the wee hours of Monday after he and his partner fled from the spot.
The police have also added sections of drunken driving, and rash and negligent driving against the driver.
However, onlookers and eyewitnesses claimed it was a woman who was at the wheel at the time of the accident.
