PANAJI: Pramod Sawant, the Chief Minister of Goa, has emphasized the urgent need for sustainable tourism practices in the state to preserve its natural beauty and attract conscientious travellers.
Speaking on the matter, Sawant highlighted the importance of addressing tourism-related challenges and promoting responsible tourism endeavours.
“We have launched initiatives like GoaMiles and other apps to modernise transportation services and enhance visitor experiences. It’s imperative to educate taxi owners and stakeholders about sustainable tourism practices,” Sawant stated, underscoring the government’s commitment to resolving pertinent issues.
Expressing concern over road safety, Sawant pinpointed rent-a-car and rent-a-bike services as potential contributors to accidents in the state. He clarified his stance, stating, “During my tenure, I have refrained from granting additional permissions for rent-a-car and rent-a-bike services. Accessible transport facilities should be prioritised to ensure safe and convenient travel for residents and tourists alike.”
Sawant’s remarks underscore the government’s proactive approach towards fostering sustainable tourism initiatives and addressing key concerns to safeguard Goa’s environment and promote responsible tourism practices.
