PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that his government will make additional provision of funds as a reward for local bodies that successfully obtain green certification.
“We will make additional provision of funds as a reward for local bodies that successfully obtain green certification. The GSPCB will conduct inspections based on different parameters of waste management before granting the green certification,” said Sawant.
Sawant encouraged villages near rivers and the coast to start bamboo plantations, citing the plant’s critical role in stabilizing soil and halting erosion. After five years, he promised, the government would buy the bamboo at market rates.
According to him, the government intends to provide one lakh free bamboo saplings this year and make bamboo accessible for purchase through the Bamboo Board of India for the following three months.
In an effort to lessen dependency on imports and restore farming in regions impacted by mining, Sawant also revealed plans to support cashew plantations. He used the village of Surla as an example, where 31 hectares of land were turned into a crop after a 20-year break.
Sawant urged industries to practice water conservation through reduction, reuse, and recycling, calling for the efficient operation of STPs and ETPs.
He urged people not to leave trash lying around near roadsides or bodies of water, and he asked for their ongoing support in encouraging a greener environment.
