PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that action will be taken against anyone trying to hurt religious sentiments in the future.
Sawant was reacting to the statement made by a priest from Valankani during the sermon.
“Action will be taken against anyone trying to hurt religious sentiments in the future. In Goa everyone is free to practice any religion and worshipping any deity,” said Sawant.
He further said that none should make statements against any other religion.
“Everyone is free to worship as per his/her faith; henceforth strict action will be taken against anyone making statements which hurt religious sentiments,” he added
Minister Nilesh Cabral who was present with CM also said that all religions in Goa are respected equally and someone making any statement against each other’s religion is not acceptable.
“All religions in Goa are equally respected; someone making statements against other religion is wrong; CM has taken the right stand; in future if such things happen, strict action will be taken,” said Cabral.
Recently, a Catholic priest in Goa was booked over a remark on Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj that he made during a sermon.
Father Bolmax Pereira was charged under provisions of Indian Penal Code for hurting religious sentiments, police said.
Bajrang Dal demanded his arrest and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant promised legal action would be taken against him.
