VASCO: At a time when the Opposition has been demanding the resignation of CM Dr Pramod Sawant following the statement of Union Home minister Amit Shah in Karnataka, Cortalim MLA Anton Vas became the first MLA to come out in support of the CM Dr Pramod Sawant.
Vas speaking to reporters after a new keeping training program conducted by the Goa Khadi Board and Village industries department in Cortalim, said that Sawant, as the CM of Goa, would do what it takes to save the Mhadei River and prevent the diversion of water.
“Mhadei River is a very major issue and a very important one for Goa. MLAs and all the people take Mhadei as the mother, and we must fight to protect our Mhadei, our lifeline. Karnataka elections are nearing, and hence there are chances that Union Minister Amit Shah may have made the statements. However, knowing Pramod Sawant as the CM, I am sure, he will do what it takes to save Mhadei water. I have full faith in the CM, Dr Pramod Sawant, who is capable enough to take the right steps in this regard for the sake of all the Goans because the Government is already exploring all angles, including political, legal and technical, for the Mhadei River issue. I have full confidence that Goa will win the issue of Mhadei River diversion in the Supreme Court,” said Vas.
On Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a statement in an election rally in Karnataka that BJP Government has resolved the long pending Mhadei water dispute by permitting the diversion of Mhadei water in Karnataka by taking Goa Government in confidence.
