Dabilim: Based on specific Information, the Air Customs officers of Goa headed by Y. B. Sahare, Assistant Commissioner of Customs apprehended a domestic passenger at Dabolim Airport on 23.01.2021, who has arrived from New Delhi by Vistara Flight No. UK847 and recovered foreign origin gold weighing 2 kg 170 grams having approximate value of Rs 95.03 lakhs.
Goa customs officers have successfully busted a modus operandi whereby an International passenger brought the smuggled gold from Dubai to Delhi and purposely left the gold below his seat with knowledge that same flight will be on domestic run from Delhi to Goa.
At Delhi another passenger of his gang occupied the same seat and picked up the hidden Gold .
He, however, was apprehended along with smuggled gold by the Alert Goa Customs officers on his arrival at Dabolim Airport .
The said gold has been seized under the provisions of Customs Act, 1962.and the domestic passenger, a native of West Bengal ,has been arrested.
Since April, 2020, the Air Customs Officers of Goa Commissionerate have seized 2515 gms of gold worth Rs.1.11 Crores at Dabolim International Airport.
The whole exercise of seizure was conducted under the constant support of Shri M.S. Meena, Joint Commissioner of Customs and overall guidance of Shri Mihir Ranjan, Commissioner of Customs,Goa. Further investigation is under progress.
