PANAJI: According to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the administration intends to establish two cluster universities in the state as part of the New Education Policy (NEP). These academic institutions will supplement Goa University.
We are suggesting two cluster universities under NEP. Goa University will go on. According to the Chief Minister, North Goa would host one cluster university and South Goa the other. According to him, the vice-chancellors of the two cluster universities will be independent.
According to Sawant, the idea is now in the planning stages and will be put into action in three years.
Colleges would have the choice of joining Goa University or one of the two cluster universities in their respective districts. “The education portfolio is also held by Sawant,” he remarked.
While the South Goa cluster university is most likely to be headquartered in Quepem, the North Goa cluster university would have its administrative office at GEC (Goa Engineering College) in Farmagudi.
According to the Chief Minister, the colleges would carry on with their current operations. The cluster universities’ administrative structure will be the sole distinction. According to him, the students would receive their degrees from the relevant cluster university.
“A student can choose to pursue music if he has completed a Bachelor of Arts program,” he stated.
For the benefit of students, the federal government has been pushing states to pursue cluster universities under the National Education Policy. The goal is to give the established colleges the academic flexibility and broad course selection that the National Education Policy advocates.
Because the affiliated institutions may work together to provide multidisciplinary education, cluster universities will enable the successful implementation of NEP. The Cluster University of Srinagar (CUS), founded in 2016, was India’s first cluster university.
According to the Chief Minister, NEP is being applied at all educational levels, starting with primary school.
