PANAJI/VASCO: Intensifying their investigation into the controversy surrounding alleged derogatory remarks against Saint Francis Xavier, Goa Police have begun efforts to track down the main accused, Gautam Khattar, who is believed to have left the state before an FIR was registered.
Superintendent of Police Gurudas Kadam confirmed that the Vasco police are in the process of forming a dedicated team to locate Khattar.
The case was registered at the Vasco police station following a written complaint filed by Congress leader Peter D’Souza.
According to the police, preliminary inquiries revealed that Khattar had exited Goa prior to the registration of the offence, prompting authorities to expand their search beyond the state.
“Efforts are underway to trace the accused, and further investigation is in progress,” SP Kadam said.
Authorities also disclosed that the case has drawn significant public response, with six separate complaints received in connection with the incident.
These complaints are being examined collectively as part of a unified investigation to ensure a comprehensive legal approach.
Addressing the protests outside the Vasco police station earlier in the day, Kadam acknowledged the public’s concern but cautioned that large gatherings could disrupt investigative procedures.
He emphasised that due process must be followed and immediate outcomes cannot be assured under such circumstances.
Police teams are currently engaged in recording witness statements and verifying all aspects related to the incident, even as the search for the आरोपी intensifies.
