PONDA: Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Saturday clarified that the state government and the Mhadei Water Disputes Tribunal have not sought any report from the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) regarding the Mhadei river dispute, distancing the state administration from a recent report attributed to the institute.
“It may be their independent report. There is no connection with the government or the Supreme Court case,” said CM Sawant, addressing concerns over the report’s impact on the ongoing legal and environmental battle surrounding the Mhadei river.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed Goa’s government’s commitment to protecting the river, which has been at the centre of a long-standing water-sharing dispute with Karnataka.
“Our fight to save Mother Mhadei was, is, and will continue,” Sawant declared
The clarification comes amid heightened public scrutiny and political debate over developments related to Karnataka’s Kalasa-Banduri project, which Goa contends threatens the ecological balance and water availability in the Mhadei basin.
