PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that instructions will be issued to both Airports to inform the Airlines to commence announcements in Konkani.
“Instruction will be issued to both Airports to inform the Airlines to commence announcements in Konkani also. At present, announcements are made in Hindi and English languages at Manohar International Airport. Dabolim Airport is a silent Airport. However, efforts are made to make restricted announcements in trilingual,” said CM Sawant.
He further said that all mandatory signboards displayed are trilingual at both airports. At Manohar International Airport flight information display system inside the Airport are in trilingual languages.
“However, action initiated to display trilingual information in the flight’s information display system at Dabolim Airport,” he said.
Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also issued an advisory stating that airlines may consider using local language for in-flight announcements “to the extent feasible”.
According to the advisory, announcements in the local language would be in addition to those made in Hindi and English. The regulator also said that pilots can make in-flight announcements about important monuments or sites en route to the flight.
The IndiGo flight from Ahmedabad to Goa made the announcement in Konkani after Goa Forward Party Chief Vijai Sardesai requested them to do.
Responding to the tweet, IndiGoa reverted, “Mr Sardesai, glad to know our team could mirror the customers’ language. Further, as far as possible, we try to accommodate local language-speaking crew on all regional flights.”
