COLVALE: A 60-year-old man, Krishna Naik, died after he was allegedly assaulted by a group of youths for questioning them over drinking and riding motorcycles at high speed near his residence at Chicalim-Colvale.
According to available information, Naik had reportedly confronted the youths and asked them why they were consuming alcohol and speeding on bikes in front of his house. The objection allegedly angered the group, leading to a violent altercation.
The youths are alleged to have attacked Naik with a wooden danda, besides kicking and punching him. He sustained serious injuries in the assault and was rushed to hospital for treatment. However, he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police have detained two persons in connection with the case, while two others are reportedly absconding. A detailed investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and identify all those involved in the incident.
The case has sparked concern among local residents over public safety and reckless behaviour in residential areas.
