PANAJI: The State government has assured the Bombay High Court in Goa to notify an amended “noise pollution action plan” by May 3 and present it before the Court on May 6.
This declaration is being made while the State government and its agencies are being sued in the High Court for contempt for their alleged failure to take action against noise pollution along the coastal belt, particularly in Anjuna, which routinely hosts late-night music events while the police ignore it.
Sagardeep Sirsaikar, Arnold D’Sa, and other petitioners claim the authorities are in contempt for not intervening more forcefully against outdoor loud music gatherings, even after being told to stop them and seize any related equipment.
The state authorities created an action plan and filed it with the court last year to address the noise pollution at Sunburn.
The State government was directed by the Bombay High Court in Goa in December of last year to present a comprehensive action plan to reduce noise pollution that could result from the Sunburn EDM music festival, which was set to take place at Vagator.
In the meantime, the High Court ordered the GSPCB to “make a statement on 6th May 2024 regarding whether these licensed premises have noise monitoring systems installed and whether such premises are functional” and directed licensing authorities to produce a list of licenses issued.
