On the face of it, it sounds a great idea as most of the beach shacks in the coastal areas just serve the chinese and the Indian continental food, which does no good for the uniqueness of Goa as a tourist destination.
Every top tourist destination has its own food culture, their recepies etc as such serving non-Goan food leaves a lot to be desired.
However, now the question arises how would the goverment keep a tab on whether this 300-odd shacks are serving fish curry rice or not?

Earlier this week Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said his government hjas made serving of fish curry & rice mandatory for shacks on Goan beaches, especially the shacks allotted by the Goa Tourism.
Locally known as Xitti Kodi, Goan Fish Curry is a widely eaten delicacy around Goa that happens to be a part of everybody’s diet. The dish is full of spices, and coconut to balance it out. It comprises fresh fish (pomfret, kingfish, prawn, mackrels etc) and raw mango or lady fingers as the essential ingredients and is served with rice. The abundance of rich flavours makes for a perfect meal that will surely satiate you to the core.

Typically, the fish curry and rice, the staple food of Goans is served at a a reasonable rate of Rs 100 to maximum of Rs 300 which isn’t feasible for the shack owners and instead they serve the fried fish, curry & rice as separate items on food menu, which turns out profitable for them. Make no mistake, Rohan Khaunte’s idea isn’t bad idea but the idea should be to make all Goan food mandatory at reasonable prices. Besides Goan Fish Curry, another delicacy of Goa that never fails to amaze is the Chicken Cafreal, This dish is a gift of the Portuguese influence on Goan cuisine. Goan Pork Vindaloo, Chicken Xacuti, Ambot Tik, Prawns balchao,
and the list goes on an on.
The tourism department has to encourage the shack owners to promote the Goan cuisine and not neccessarily the fish curry & rice as well-heeled domestic travellers who come in through the year from Mumbai and Delhi are armed with lists of must-visit restaurants.
Goa’s rich heritage can be seen through the diverse yet united Food in Goa. The Traditional Food of Goa speaks volumes of history with its taste.
This west coast has much more than the beaches to give people.
The seafood-dominated cuisine of Goa will never disappoint you. The Portuguese-influenced food available in Goa Famous Food is proof of Portuguese colonization. Goa has so much to give.
The idea should be that the should enjoy some of the best traditional cuisines of Goa.
Of Course, the Indian continental, chinese food must be available at all time but Goan food must get the priority.
