PANAJI: The Goa government has taken a major step towards developing a Metro Water Transportation network, with the State Cabinet assigning Kochi Metro Rail Ltd. to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the ambitious project.
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said the DPR is expected to be completed within the next three months, after which the government will move forward with the implementation of the proposed water-based public transport system.
The Metro Water Transportation project aims to strengthen Goa’s transport infrastructure by leveraging the State’s rivers and waterways, offering an alternative mode of travel while easing pressure on road traffic.
Apart from the transport initiative, the Cabinet also approved a minor amendment to the Goa Children (Amendment) Bill, 2026. The Chief Minister said the term “leprosy” has been removed from the Bill in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court.
The Cabinet further approved a One-Time Settlement (OTS) Scheme under the Ashray Adhar Scheme of the Goa State Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation. The decision grants a waiver of interest on outstanding dues, enabling beneficiaries to clear pending loans with reduced financial burden.
The Cabinet decisions reflect the government’s focus on expanding sustainable transport infrastructure, aligning State laws with judicial directives, and extending financial support to Scheduled Tribe beneficiaries.
