PANAJI: In a major step towards preventing the misuse of seized narcotics, Goa Police on Thursday destroyed 46.363 kg of seized narcotic drugs valued at approximately ₹2,02,35,000, pertaining to 18 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at various police stations, including the Anti Narcotic Police Station.
The seized narcotic substances were disposed of through high-temperature incineration at the authorised disposal facility of Biotic Waste Solutions Private Limited at IDC, Kundaim, following the prescribed legal procedure.
The destruction was carried out in the presence of Director General of Police Alok Kumar, IPS, and supervised by the Goa Police Drug Disposal Committee (DDC).
The committee was chaired by Deputy Inspector General of Police (ANC) Ved Prakash Surya, IPS, with Superintendent of Police, Anti Narcotic Cell, Sunita Sawant, Superintendent of Police (PHQ) Tushar Vernekar, and Food and Drugs Administration Director Shweta Dessai serving as members. Panch witnesses, authorised officers and personnel from the Anti Narcotic Police Station were also present throughout the process to ensure transparency and strict adherence to legal norms.
Goa Police said the destruction of seized narcotic drugs forms part of its sustained efforts to effectively enforce the NDPS Act, ensure the timely disposal of seized contraband, prevent its misuse, and strengthen its mission of making Goa a drug-free and safer State.
