PANAJI: With it being the land of Sun and Sand, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that Goa government provides the perfect setting to harness solar energy and embrace sustainable energy consumption.
“The collaborative efforts of the Goa Energy Development Agency, the Department of New and Renewable Energy, and the Electricity Department have resulted in the launch of subsidies for Solar Panel Installations accessible through a user-friendly portal inspiring the people of Goa to adopt environment-friendly methods of electricity generation,” said CM Sawant
He further said that Government of Goa is walking the transformative path set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi realizing the vision of establishing solar-based households throughout the state and is taking significant strides towards a greener and more sustainable future for Goa.
We want the support of the public to achieve this goal. Residential buildings, government buildings and commercial establishments can use their rooftops to install solar panels,” he said.
“We can get success only if the public supports this decision. They will get a 40 per cent subsidy from the central government and 10 per cent from the state. Our concerned departments have taken initiative to make Panaji a solar city,” he said.
He said that in the next two years, 88 MW solar power can be generated in the city by installing solar power generating units.
The government is committed to generating 150 MW of green energy in the next two years and will be setting up 100 MW solar power plants throughout Goa, he said.
“The state government has also signed a memorandum of understanding to develop India’s first convergence project to generate green energy for rural and agriculture consumption, and it will soon roll out the affordable clean power project, Sawant said
