PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today announced that the Goa Revolution Day History chapter would be incorporated in the 11th standard textbooks starting next academic year.
Sawant was addressing the gathering at Azad Maidan in Panaji on Goa Revolution Day.
“Starting next academic year, the History chapter on Goa Revolution Day will be added to the syllabus of 11 standards. Last year my govt had promised the Cuncolim revolt to be added to history textbooks, and we have fulfilled the same,” said Sawant
He further assured that all children of freedom fighters would be absorbed in the government sector before the next Goa Revolution Day.
CM further said, “The Goa Revolution Day marked the last phase of the freedom movement in which thousands of Goans participated voluntarily,”
Sawant said that this period had witnessed an era of supreme sacrifice by the freedom fighters. Many embraced martyrdom, and thousands of others went through untold hardships and deportation.
“This is the occasion to remember, salute and pay homage to the sacrifice and bravery of respected martyrs who laid their life for the freedom of Goa. I pay my humble tribute to the martyrs and freedom fighters.
Sawant said, “Four per cent of jobs will be reserved for children of freedom fighters in every department when the government starts filling vacant posts shortly.”
The scheme for Employment in Government to the children of Freedom Fighters was also extended by another year, i.e. from March 1, 2021, to February 28, 2023, he said, adding that ‘the government will try to provide jobs to all children of freedom fighters within a year.’
“Let us join hands together and strive to protect the hard-earned freedom by rededicating ourselves to achieve greater progress,” CM concluded.
It may be recalled that the children of freedom fighters, along with three veteran freedom fighters, had resorted to an indefinite hunger strike at Panaji, demanding government jobs.
