PANAJI: Goa taxis are set to go meterless, with passengers instead able to check official fares through a new QR code-based system approved by the State Transport Authority (STA).
Under the proposed system, commuters will be able to scan a QR code to view the applicable taxi fares. MLA Michael Lobo said the Information Technology Department will complete the remaining work before the system is rolled out.
The new fare structure will come into force once the rates are officially notified. Lobo said the same notified fares will also apply to GoaMiles, ensuring a common fare structure for taxi services.
The move is expected to give passengers direct access to fare information while replacing the existing meter-based system.
Meanwhile, Lobo said GSIDC has proposed a ₹110 crore government complex at Mapusa Morod, which will bring various government offices under one roof. The project has been approved and will now be sent for financial approval.
